Fantasy Injury Updates: A.J. Green, Rob Gronkowski, Joe Flacco, more affecting Week 12 fantasy rankings

A.J. Green is getting closer to returning for the Bengals, and Rob Gronkowski's expected back after New England's bye. Meanwhile, Joe Flacco and Marvin Jones may be truly questionable as they enter Week 12, so they will have to be watched closely ahead of this week's games. There are a lot of injuries around the NFL right now, and fantasy football owners have to be aware of the latest updates as the fantasy playoffs approach. There could be some tough start 'em, sit 'em decisions -- especially with three Thursday games this week -- and these injuries will certainly be a big part of that.

As the week continues, we'll have the latest news surrounding all the injuries across the NFL. Follow us on Twitter (@SN_Fantasy) for more updates and advice.

Is A.J. Green playing in Week 12?

Green was listed as doubtful ahead of last week's game against the Ravens, but it was surprising that he even had a chance to play. It was always anticipated he would be out at least two games when he initially suffered a toe injury in Week 8. Now, things seem to be trending in a positive direction.

According to ESPN's Josina Anderson, Green has a "good chance" of playing in Week 12 against the Browns. This makes sense, as Green's injury status improved as last week went along, so with another week of rest and limited practice, he will probably have a chance to get on the field. Of course, we'll be watching closely to ensure that there aren't any setbacks, but things are still looking rosy for Green.

If Green returns, that will greatly improve the Bengals passing game. Tyler Boyd would slide back into the No. 2 role, while John Ross would serve as the deep threat. More than anything else, Green's return will open things up for Boyd in coverage and make Andy Dalton's life easier. If Green plays, Dalton would be a safer streamer than he has been in the past couple weeks.

Rob Gronkowski injury update

Earlier in the week, ESPN's Adam Schefter reported that Gronkowski is expected to play in Week 12 after missing time with a back injury. Gronk's return will provide a boost to the New England passing offense.

In the past three games, Tom Brady has only thrown one TD pass. Gronk's return should open up more space for him, and that will be critical for Brady's fantasy owners. For Gronk's owners, he should see targets right away, and if he's healthy, he will have a chance to produce at a higher rate than he has this season.

Is Joe Flacco playing in Week 12?

According to Jeff Zrebiec of The Athletic, Flacco has "a chance" to play in Week 12. He is dealing with a hip injury that kept him out of last week's win against the Bengals. It seems that Flacco's injury will make him questionable once again, and his practice status will be telling as the team looks to get him back and healthy.

Though Flacco does have a chance to return, it's unclear exactly what the Ravens plans at quarterback are. As long as Flacco is out, first-round pick Lamar Jackson will continue to start. He did a lot of damage with his legs against Cincinnati, and though he's not a great passer yet, he helped get the team a win last week. And if he keeps winning, he probably will hold onto the starting job.

This could be the critical week for Flacco. If he can't return and Jackson puts up another solid outing, Flacco may become the backup moving forward. For now, we'll keep an eye on Flacco's practice status, but this is certainly something that will need to be watched closely in the coming weeks.

Marvin Jones injury news

Though the Lions didn't officially have a practice on Monday, as is customary for teams ahead of a short week, Jones was listed as a non-participant. That makes his status for Thanksgiving Day truly questionable, and we'll be closely watching his practice status on Tuesday and Wednesday to see if anything changes.

In the event that Jones can't play, Kenny Golladay would again be the top receiving option, shown by his 27 targets the past two games. Bruce Ellington, who had nine targets last week, would serve as the likely No. 2 option. Theo Riddick could also be a factor in the passing game with Kerryon Johnson out. If you're worried about Jones' status, try grabbing either Ellington or Riddick to plug in as a flex play this week. Jones' status will be decided before any other game kicks off this week, so fantasy owners will have plenty of time to make critical decisions about their lineup.
