The BMW Championship will mark the end for another round of golfers as the PGA Tour's 2019 FedEx Cup playoffs field whittles down once more.

The top 70 players in the FedEx Cup points standings are eligible to compete at Medinah Country Club in the suburbs of Chicago, but only the top 30 advance to the Tour Championship. That includes Tiger Woods, who says he's feeling better after pulling out of last week's Northern Trust put will need a strong weekend to make up ground and qualify for the final weekend of the season in Atlanta.

Woods is ranked 38th in points (1,003) — the lowest of golf's 2019 major winners — and needs at least 1,100 to crack the 30-player field.

A windfall of 2,000 points will be awarded to the winner of the BMW Championship (Patrick Reed moved up from 50th to second overall with his victory last week). Points are also given to players who finish in the top 16 — meaning that's the threshold Woods needs to meet to have a chance to play on.

New rules for the 2019 Tour Championship also make positioning important.

Via the PGA Tour:

The FedExCup points leader after the first two Playoffs events will begin the Tour Championship at 10-under par. The No. 2 player will start at 8 under. The No. 3 player starts at 7 under; the No. 4 player starts at 6 under; the No. 5 player starts at 5 under. Players 6-10 start at 4 under; players 11-15 start at 3 under; players 16-20 start at 2 under; players 21-25 start at 1 under; and players 26-30 start at even par.

Brooks Koepka enters the BMW Championship as the top points-earner in 2019 (2,980), followed by Reed (2,774), Rory McIlroy (2,670), Matt Kuchar (2,313) and Jon Rahm (2,097). Hideki Matsuyama (No. 33) and Jordan Spieth (No. 44) join Woods on the fringes, at risk of playing their final PGA tournament of 2019.
