Tiger Woods improved his spot on the leaderboard when he entered the clubhouse Friday at the BMW Championship.

But the two-time FedEx Cup champion didn't improve on his score, which is something he'll need to do over the weekend if he wants to play out the rest of the season.

Woods finished with a second consecutive round of 1-under (71) — good for a tie for 44th place when he ended his round.

He saw a few highlights including an approach shot to set up a short birdie putt on the par-4 11th hole.

It was his third of five birdies on the day.

Woods continued with back-to-back birdies on the 14th and 15th holes and looked to be in good position heading into the weekend.

Woods' round, however, was also plagued with a handful of bogeys.

He needs to place no worse than solo 11th to move into the top 30 in the FedEx Cup Standings and defend his Tour Championship title next week.
