At 21 years old, Brooke Henderson has a lot of weight on her shoulders as she looks to defend her Canadian Pacific Women's Open title.

That, however, seems far from the truth. As the CP Open kicked off on Thursday, Henderson remained fully collected and locked in. In the first round, she shot a 6-under 66 and is the tournament's sole leader heading into Round 2.

"To get a solid round like this ... I think this is really a confidence-booster for me," Henderson told the Golf Channel. "Gives me a lot of momentum going into the next three days."

Henderson converted all seven of her birdie opportunities on Thursday, holing just one bogey.

Last year, the LPGA No. 8 became the first Canadian since Jocelyne Bourassa in 1973 to win the national women's open. In June, she became the winningest Canadian in pro golf history after winning her ninth LPGA title at the Meijer LPGA Classic.

She'll look to keep the momentum going as the second round kicks off Friday.
