Dustin Johnson gets choked up in Masters interview: 'It's hard to talk'

Dustin Johnson earned his first green jacket on Sunday, winning the 2020 Masters with a fourth-round score of 4-under 68.

It not only bucked Johnson's notable history of blowing 54-hole leads, but also set two incredible records at Augusta National Golf Club: His final score of 20 under broke the tournament record (18 under) set by Tiger Woods in 1997 and tied by Jordan Spieth in 2015; he also set the record for fewest bogeys (four) by a champion.

It's clear this victory — only his second major win and first since the 2016 U.S. Open — meant something more to the Columbia, S.C., native. Johnson was notably emotional in his post-tournament interview with Amanda Balionis, stopping several times to compose himself.

"I've never had this much trouble," Johnson said, gathering myself.

It was a wonderful moment in Masters history, one made more impactful knowing how much winning at Augusta means for Johnson. And credit to Balionis for the way she handled the interview: She not only granted Johnson time to compose himself, but also allowed him to say more with his emotions than he could have said with his words.

In all, a touching finish to a masterful Masters for Johnson.
