Braves first baseman Freddie Freeman underwent surgery on his right elbow, the team announced Friday.

Freeman had the procedure done in New York on Wednesday to remove "three fragmented loose bodies" and clean up "multiple bone spur formations," according to the team.

Atlanta says he is expected to be ready for spring training next season.

The Braves went 97-65 this season, winning the National League East. They were eliminated by the Cardinals in five games in the National League Division Series.

Freeman was named an All-Star this season en route to hitting .295 with 38 homers and 121 RBIs in 158 games.
