Max Scherzer is thankful that he's still alive, and so are we.

The Nationals ace made the start in the 2021 All-Star Game, the fourth time he's done so in his career, but it was the first time he was nearly decapitated by an opposing batter.

In the first inning, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. hit an absolute screamer that narrowly missed Scherzer's head, resulting in an innocuous ground out. Guerrero then walked over to give him an apologetic hug just after the smash.

Scherzer is pretty thankful to escape the incident without serious harm, as he explained after the AL's 5-2 win over the NL.

"I'm alive; that's the success story. I'm just grateful I still have a blue eye and a brown eye," Scherzer said after the game.

Scherzer said that the combination of the location, the hitter and the way he falls off the mound made for a "a pitcher's worst nightmare."

Thankfully, Scherzer escaped danger. And he received a nice hug from Vladito for the worry.
