Yermin Mercedes' retirement from baseball lasted less than a day.

The DH/catcher announced on Instagram that he was back with the White Sox's Triple-A affiliate, complete with an image of a phoenix rising from the ashes.

"I'm never going to give up," he wrote in Spanish. "I lasted 10 years in the minor leagues. I have always understood that the process is great but the talent and what I have shown speak for themselves."

The night before, he wrote "it's over" on IG after playing in a minor league game. He mentioned immaturity and "failing people." White Sox manager Tony La Russa said after Chicago's game Wednesday that he would try to speak to Mercedes and convince him he still has major league potential.

Mercedes took down the "it's over" post Thursday and replaced it with the phoenix post.

The White Sox optioned Mercedes to Triple-A Charlotte on July 2 while he was in the midst of a lengthy slump. Many people attributed the tailspin to La Russa criticizing Mercedes in mid-May for swinging at a 3-0 pitch in the ninth inning of a blowout Chicago win. Mercedes homered off Twins position player Willians Astudillo. La Russa said Mercedes missed a take sign.

Twins reliever Tyler Duffey threw at Mercedes the next night, and La Russa didn't sound bothered by it.

Mercedes did not play Thursday night.
