Clemson's Dabo Swinney reportedly traveled via private plane to vacation during COVID-19 pandemic

Clemson coach Dabo Swinney is of the opinion that the coronavirus (COVID-19) will pose no threat to college football. Never mind that it has already forced the cancellation or postponement of such sports staples as March Madness, the NBA, the Masters and Wimbledon, among others.

The Tigers' coach said as much in a recent interview with CBS' Dennis Dodd when he said that America will "rise up and kick this thing in the teeth."

Perhaps that's why the two-time national champion coach felt comfortable enough to travel via private plane to his family vacation home in Florida — and may do so again for Easter. From Dodd's article:

"The coach also noted that his family has traveled once to Florida via private plane for vacation and may do so next week for Easter. 'The plane was sanitized,' he said. 'We don't have any concern.'"

It should be noted that South Carolina is one of only nine states in the U.S. that has not issued a shelter-in-place order, and it's not made clear in the article whether Swinney traveled to Florida before the state issued a stay-at-home mandate on Wednesday. That said, it has been widely accepted that everyone should limit their non-essential travel and maintain social distancing to limit the potential spread of COVID-19 and ease pressure on hospitals inundated with patients.

Considering the state of Florida's recent shelter-in-place order, it would seem unwise for Swinney to follow through on any potential plans to vacation there, regardless of whether his means of travel is sanitized or not.

That's the sort of action people must take in this unprecedented pandemic. Otherwise, Swinney's statement that America will defeat COVID-19 in time for the 2020 college football season will have no teeth at all.
