Broncos linebacker Bradley Chubb was arrested Tuesday by the Douglas County Sheriff's Department (Colo.) on a failure-to-appear warrant, issued on Aug. 6 after the fourth-year player failed to appear in Arapahoe County court.

Denver news station K-USA reports Chubb's court date stemmed from a May 6 misdemeanor charge of driving under restraint, and also of driving with plates that had been expired for 60-plus days. In Colorado, DUR is defined as "operating a motor vehicle with a license that has been revoked or suspended."

According to court records obtained by K-USA, Chubb was also ticketed for driving 10-19 mph over the speed limit on April 1, 2019; that charge was dropped. He was ticketed for the violation again on Dec. 3, 2020 by the Douglas County Sheriff's Department.

Sgt. Jeff Miller from the Douglas County Sheriff, emailing K-USA, said deputies from the office contacted Chubb in regard to a traffic infraction (presumably regarding the ticket issued to him on Dec. 3). It was only after deputies made contact that it was discovered he had an outstanding warrant for arrest for failure to appear.

"Mr. Chubb was contacted late this morning for a minor traffic infraction by deputies from our office," Miller said. "After contacting Mr. Chubb it was discovered that he had a warrant out of Arapahoe County for FTA (Failure to Appear) on traffic offenses and was taken into custody and transported to the Douglas County Detention Center and is currently in the process of posting a small bond."

The Broncos have released a statement acknowledging they are aware of Chubb's arrest.

“We are aware of the matter, which was related to an unresolved traffic citation that has now been addressed," the team said.

Chubb, 25, was Denver's first overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft, at No. 5 overall. That season, he set a franchise record with 12 sacks as a rookie. He missed all but four games of the 2019 season after tearing his ACL, but rebounded in 2020 for 7 1/2 sacks and his first career Pro Bowl berth. Chubb is expected to play in the team's season opener against the Giants after undergoing arthroscopic ankle surgery in mid-May and injuring his other, non-surgically-repaired ankle last week.
