The Spurs open the 2014-15 season and their defense of last season's title with a game against their in-state rival Mavericks (8 p.m. ET, TNT), a team that took San Antonio the distance in the first round of last year's playoffs.

The Spurs opened as 6.5-point favorites with a total of 206.5 at the Westgate Las Vegas SuperBook. Both the spread and total were bet down, sitting at Spurs -4 and 204 Tuesday morning.   Other shops are dealing San Antonio at -4.5 and the total as high as 204.5

The Spurs finished last season 45-37 ATS and 44-37-1 to the OVER. The Mavs were similarly successful ATS (44-38) and to the OVER (45-37).

Keep an eye on Finals MVP Kawhi Leonard, who many expect to take a step into superstardom this season and continue the path paved by Tim Duncan, Tony Parker, and Manu Ginobili.

The Spurs begin the season at No. 2 on the Don Best/Linemakers Power Ratings, a half-point behind the Cavaliers.   Check out the full list right here.

In the nightcap, the Rockets take on Kobe Bryant and the Lakers at Staples Center (10:30 p.m. ET, TNT).  Los Angeles, who will be without Steve Nash (back) this season, opened +7.5 with a total of 214.5. But while the spread inched downward to 6.5, the total has tumbled to 206..

The Rockets are going through some roster transition of their own, replacing Chandler Parsons with Trevor Ariza and handing the starting point guard reigns to Patrick Beverly. Of course, success for the Rockets hinges on the shoulders of James Harden and Dwight Howard. While Howard was fine statistically last year (18.3 PPG, 12.2 RPG, .591 FG), there are growing expectations for him this season as he takes a step closer to putting his 2012 back surgery 100 percent behind him .
