Connor McDavid has the innate ability to blow people's minds with his hockey prowess. If you are inclined to believe the things that come out of Jay McKee's Twitter feed, we can now add "makes hockey pucks explode" to the McDavid scouting report.
The phenom rang a slapshot off the crossbar during practice with the Erie Otters this morning. Once you get over the shock of the realization that McDavid is capable of missing the net, get this: Upon hitting the metal, the puck exploded into eight mini pucks, according to McKee, the former NHL defenseman who coaches the Otters.
Here's visual evidence, for what it's worth:
McDavid leads the Ontario Hockey League with 34 points in 12 games so far this season. By most accounts, he's the most sought-after prospect since Sidney Crosby entered the NHL in 2005 and is the likely No. 1 overall selection in next summer's draft.
Add it to his resume.
Most junior hockey phenoms need to adjust to the NHL. I think the NHL is going to have to adjust to Connor McDavid.— Adam Proteau (@Proteautype) October 29, 2014
