Colt Knost tied the course record Friday at The Players Championship by firing a 9-under 63 in the second round at TPC Sawgrass.

The round was great, but Knost might feel disappointed after having a chance to break the record outright. He entered the 18th hole at 10 under and hit the green in two, needing two putts to shoot 62. He left his first putt five feet short, then he missed the second putt.

"I was nervous on the tee shot (on 18) because I hit it in the water yesterday and took double," Knost said on Golf Channel after his second round. "I was nervous over the 4- or 5-footer, too. When the wind lies down and the course is playing so fast, you've got short irons in. You can be aggressive."

Conditions have been unbelievably easy at TPC Sawgrass this week. Jason Day already had tied the course record Thursday, and Rory McIlroy was 8 under through 13 holes in Friday's early wave with a chance to break the record himself.

One of the reasons the course is playing so easy, is the damp course. The greens are receptive, which allows players to control their irons and wedges to near perfection. The course is also a little skinny on rough. Players aren't faced with a penalty if they miss the fairway.

The wind, normally a big defense for the Stadium Course, has also been down, especially in the two morning waves.

Knost shot an even-par 72 Thursday but didn't take long to figure out the course. He had a stretch of four birdies in a row on the front nine (holes five through eight) which is normally a tough stretch. He is currently one shot behind Jonas Blixt, who is in the clubhouse at 10 under after consecutive 67s.

McIlroy has cooled off a bit after starting his round 7 under though his first seven holes. But he could add two birdies in his last five holes to claim the record by himself.

Expect low scores to continue throughout the day as the conditions continue to stay mild. Who knows, maybe Day will have a run at the record again this afternoon.
