There have been concerns about Joel Embiid's health entering the 2014 NBA Draft, and it appears that unease was warranted.

Embiid, who missed considerable time at Kansas for a back injury, has hurt his foot with only a week to spare before the June 24 NBA draft, according to Jeff Goodman of ESPN.com

Embiid's mentor, Luc Mbah a Moute, confirmed to Goodman that Embiid did, indeed, suffer a foot injury. Embiid's agent, Arm Tellem, later revealed that Embiid suffered a stress fracture and requires right foot surgery, as Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports first reported.

The injury is in the navicular bone of Embiid's right foot. Embiid will have surgery to correct the injury on Friday.

Because of the injury, Embiid will not participate in any other workouts and will not attend the June 24 draft in New York, Tellem told Wojnarowski.

Prior to this injury, Embiid was considered a possible No. 1 pick to the Cleveland Cavaliers. We will not know whether that will change until the extent of his injury is revealed. Embiid worked out for the Cavaliers earlier this month and did well in medical testing. Following this recent news, the team reportedly has interest in working out Australian combo guard Dante Exum.

In a conversation with Sporting News NBA writer Sean Deveney, an NBA GM said, "You can't use a Top 5 pick" on an injured Embiid. But that GM did say he could rationalize taking a chance on Embiid within the Top 10.
