Browns' Ronnie Harrison Jr. ejected after shoving Chiefs coach on sideline

It's the first week of NFL action, so emotions are going to be running high.

But the Browns and Chiefs took that a bit too far late in the first quarter. After running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire was tackled at the Cleveland 42-yard line, Browns safety Ronnie Harrison Jr. stood over him on the sideline. Chiefs running backs coach Greg Lewis came over to push Harrison away from the second-year running back, prompting Harrison to shove Lewis harder back.

The initial call on the field was an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty on the Chiefs before a review reversed the penalty onto Harrison, leading to his disqualification from the season-opener.

It is not uncommon to see some pushing and shoving going on after plays, but for it to involve a coach and a player is something that rarely happens.

From a depth perspective, the ejection of Harrison is a major blow to the Browns. The team was already missing safety Grant Delpit. M.J. Stewart Jr. was the backup listed at strong safety by the team. And for the loss of that defensive backfield depth to come in a major clash against the Chiefs only makes the loss of Harrison more significant for Cleveland.

The Browns were able to hold Kansas City to just a field goal before marching down and scoring another touchdown on their subsequent drive to put Patrick Mahomes and company on their heels early in their Sunday matchup.
