Major League Soccer displayed its global star power in the MLS All-Star Game on Wednesday, with a pair of newcomers proving the North American league is rejuvenated after the departures of Landon Donovan and Thierry Henry.

Kaka and David Villa wasted no time in making an impact for the MLS All-Stars in a 2-1 victory over Tottenham at Dick's Sporting Goods Park, with the Brazilian and Spanish players scoring in a three-minute span in the first half.

While some big names pulled out of the match because of injuries, Kaka and Villa put on a show, with the Orlando City playmaker knocking in a penalty kick in the 20th minute before setting up the New York City FC striker to put the MLS All-Stars up two early in the match.

But the goal of the game was scored by Tottenham's Harry Kane, who fired in a rocket from outside the box off a one-on-one break against LA Galaxy center back Omar Gonzalez in the 37th minute.

Last-minute scratches for the match included Michael Bradley (Toronto FC), Sebastian Giovinco (Toronto FC) Steven Gerrard (LA Galaxy), Robbie Keane (LA Galaxy) and Chris Tierney (New England Revolution). They were replaced by the Columbus Crew's Ethan Finlay and Waylon Francis, Galaxy pair Juninho and Gyasi Zardes, TFC striker Jozy Altidore, and Rapids midfielder Sam Cronin.

The MLS All-Stars have faced European competition each season since 2005, with seven wins, three losses and a draw against elite clubs.
