Fans turn violent ahead of New York Derby

Written By Jordan Greer

Things got ugly ahead of the New York Derby as a huge fight broke out on the streets of New Jersey.

Fans became violent outside Carmelita Sweet Bakery and Deli on Market Street in Newark, N.J., before the MLS matchup between the New York Red Bulls and New York City FC. Trash bags were thrown and even a sandwich board was used as a weapon.

It appears police officers showed up to prevent the violence from escalating. Hopefully fans can remain calm as the teams square off Sunday night at Red Bull Arena in Harrison, N.J.
