Scoring a hat trick in the first game of a tournament is as good a start as can be expected of any forward with aspirations to finish as top scorer. Brazil's Richarlison did it against Germany in his team's opening match.

Along with Spain's Marco Asensio  and French veteran Andre-Pierre Gignac, the Brazilian was among the oddsmakers' pre-tournament favorites to finish as the leading scorer in the competition. Now Richarlison is the favorite to top the category (-118) in front of Gignac (+400) and fellow Brazil teammate Matheus Cunha (+1000), who didn't do himself any favors by failing to convert a penalty kick against Germany.

The table below will be updated with the latest goal-scorer rankings after every matchday in the men's football tournament. For players tied on goals, assists and minutes played are the first and second tiebreakers in the table. (Note: There have also been two own goals scored which are not reflected below.)
