Goalkeeper Ryan Meara botches routine play, concedes game-deciding goal

Written By Scott Rafferty

This hurts.

In the 20th minute against the Fire on Friday, New York City goalkeeper Ryan Meara made a mistake he won't soon forget. The 24-year-old chased the ball down to the right of the goal with no pressure around him to keep it in play. All was going according to plan.

But just when it seemed as though he was in the clear, the ball squeezed its way out of his possession and set David Accam up for the easiest goal of his career.

To no surprise, the midfielder capitalized on the opportunity and put his team ahead one goal.

Although Meara made a number of big saves in the second half, the Fire wound up winning, 1-0.
