Ratings for the U.S. national team players who participated in the Americans' 4-1 loss to Brazil on Tuesday in Foxborough, Mass. Players are rated on a scale of 0 (worst) to 5 (best) stars.

Goalkeeper

Brad Guzan: 2 1/2 stars. Hung out to dry by his team on several occasions. Came close to keeping out Neymar's penalty and without his contributions this could have been much worse.

Defenders

Geoff Cameron: 1 star. A horrendous showing in defense. Beaten for pace on a number of occasions with Douglas Costa and Marcelo running rampant, and his night only got worse with the arrival of Neymar. Caught out then conceded the penalty in an attempt to recover, making it 2-0 Brazil.

Michael Orozco: 2 stars. He was inconsistent at best. Made some decent interventions, but then some careless errors proved costly. Wasn't offered any help though by the likes of Cameron or Jones.

Tim Ream: 1 1/2 stars. Had a nightmarish time on the flank trying to contain Willian and Fabinho, while offering very little going forward.

Ventura Alvarado: 2 stars. Read the game well and made some crucial interceptions to help limit the damage in the first half, but it all went wrong for him after the break.

Midfielders

DeAndre Yedlin: 2 stars. A bright spot for the Americans in attack, though he faded drastically. His raw inexperience proved very costly as he gave the ball away a few times and failed to track back.

Jermaine Jones: 1 1/2 stars. Defensive cover was shockingly poor. Didn't commit himself in midfield and came nowhere near close enough to closing the gaps. Afforded far too much space to Brazil behind midfield.

Michael Bradley: 2 1/2 stars. The lone bright spot in midfield for the hosts, covering every blade of grass. Picked out some very threatening passes and provided a spark of creativity going forward. Defensive cover was lacking a bit, though, in the second half.

Alejandro Bedoya: 1 star. Failed to stick with Willian in the buildup to the opener, setting the tone for his night, which ended after just 35 minutes.

Gyasi Zardes: 2 stars. Very limited with his contributions going forward and failed to track the runs of Fabinho on the overlap before being replaced at the break.

Forward

Jozy Altidore: 1 1/2 stars. Saw little of the ball and didn't work hard enough to get onto it. His hold-up play was desperately needed by the hosts, who failed to keep possession for extended periods.

Substitutes

Jonathan Spector: 2 1/2 stars. Carved out a couple of chances after coming on though the game was already out of reach.

Mix Diskerud: 1 1/2 stars. Careless in possession and squandered a glorious chance at a goal by sending a shot straight at Grohe.

Daniel Williams: 2 stars. Failed to provide the defensive support needed, getting nowhere near the Brazilians in midfield. A thunderous strike in stoppage time provided his side with a consolation goal.

Jordan Morris: 2 stars. Didn't fare any better than Altidore after coming on for him just before the hour mark.

Bobby Wood: 2 stars. Was a mere spectator after replacing Zardes at the break.
